Lewis Hamilton’s self-declared Ferrari ‘nightmare’ continues. The latest instalment is his team principal Fred Vasseur telling the seven-time world champion to ‘calm down’ after he berated his own ‘terrible’ form in Las Vegas.
Hamilton, 40, described his debut season at the Scuderia as the worst of a 19-year career after qualifying last at the weekend and finishing eighth, following the McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri’s disqualification for running illegal cars.
A despondent Hamilton said he was keen to draw a line under the campaign, which has two rounds to run, in Qatar this weekend and Abu Dhabi the one afterwards.
But Vasseur said: ‘I understand the reaction from Lewis just after the race. But he has to calm down and be focused on the next two races.
‘Lewis was there in practice, and the pace was good, but starting from 20th is not the best way to have good results.
’For now, we have to calm down. To jump out of the car and make the first comments, it is always a bit too much.’

Ferrari’s team principal Frederic Vasseur has urged his lead driver Hamilton to ‘calm down’ in the wake of his remarks that he was having the ‘worst ever season’ of his 19-year career

Vasseur said: ‘I understand the reaction from Lewis just after the race. But he has to calm down and be focused’ – the second time he has received a public reprimand from his Ferrari bosses
Hamilton is 74 points behind Charles Leclerc and has been outqualified by his Monegasque team-mate 17 times out of 22 – while the fight at the pinnacle of the championship hots up without either Ferrari man in contention.
The title can go one of three ways with Lando Norris leading Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by 24 points with 58 available.
