Tyson Fury drops new retirement U-turn hint as he teases pursuit of Oleksandr Usyk titles

Tyson Fury made a cryptic post on social media hinting that he must ‘return to his heavyweight throne’.

The ‘Gypsy King’ retired earlier this year after reflecting upon his second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

Ever since, he has made a number of suggestions that he will indeed return to the ring in 2026 after a year-long hiatus.

These include a suggestion that he will meet Usyk in a trilogy in March next year, as he seeks the ultimate redemption against his only ever conqueror.

Official talks have yet to materialise, with Usyk indicating that his number one priority is now a showdown with Deontay Wilder in the new year.

But from Fury’s side of the table, it appears he is sold on a new assault at the world titles.

He posted a picture of himself sat on a throne, just like he was during his ring walk before beating Dillian Whyte in 2022.

And he captioned the image: “The king must return to his throne.

“There is a long & lonely road that only I can walk on, but after the long & hard battles awaits immortality!”

It is clear that Fury would like to face Usyk again, given his suggestion that he must return to his throne at the top of the division.

But whether he will get his wish is down to the ever-changing heavyweight landscape.

Who do fans want to see Fury fight in 2026?

Clearly in the comments, there was an immediate bombardment of names.

But the most common was that of his bitter rival Anthony Joshua.

One fan wrote: “AJ Vs Tyson 2026.”

Another agreed: “A warm-up at Old Trafford in March or April, and Joshua at Wembley in September it is, then.”

A final fan concluded: “So he’ll fight AJ for their last big paydays after AJ demolishes Jake Paul next week.”

Will Fury vs Anthony Joshua happen?

The all-British heavyweight clash remains one of the biggest fights in boxing, despite the pair being outside of their title-winning form.

It would still be a blockbuster commercial deal, one which AJ has stated on multiple occasions he is keen on pursuing in 2026.

And in incredible fashion, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed they have already agreed a deal with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh for the clash.

Alalshikh now simply has to agree a contract with Fury to lure him back into the squared circle.

Hearn told talkSPORT: “What I can tell you is Turki Alalshikh has told us, ‘I am going to make AJ v Tyson Fury. This is your deal. Do you accept?’

“We have accepted. Is the fight made? No.

“Because I don’t know where he’s at with Tyson Fury. All I know is he’s yet to fail in delivering a fight.”
